Free-Roaming West Texas Aoudad Hunts
If you haven't been on a true free-roaming Aoudad sheep hunt you are missing out on one of the most challenging and exciting hunts in the West. These big rams are an incredible trophy and make an impressive mount in any trophy room. On a typical hunt, we leave the ranch house on a side by side ATV and drive to the canyon country where rams like to roam. We will make multiple stops and glass for sheep from the road. Usually we will spot a ram or rams at a distance and then plan a stalk if there is a trophy sized ram in the group. It is very common to see 10-30 rams in a day. We will help you determine a trophy ram that has long chaps and big horns. Our rams average in the 29-30 inch range. The biggest will be in the 31-34 inch range with around 14 inch bases. Occasionally we will kill a smaller horned ram (27"-28") but it is because he is a real old ram with broomed horns and huge chaps. Part of our success (100% kill for more than a decade) is due to the type of equipment we use. We have the latest and best Swarovski, Nightforce and Leica optics for spotting sheep. My son Walker is a custom long range gun builder and we always have a good selection of rifles that you are free to use. These guns are built just for this type of hunting. We also have a long range silhouette course that you will be able to practice shooting on before your hunt. You will be coached on the different aspects of accurately shooting at long distances. This is a lot of fun plus very fulfilling to kill a ram at distances most think is impossible!
Season
Hunting season for aoudad is open year round however, we schedule our hunts mainly from December-March and this is for a couple of reasons. One is it gets awfully hot in this country and by hunting during this time, conditions and temps are very enjoyable (30-40 degree nights, 50-75 degree days). Also, if you want to hunt a mule deer, we can take advantage of the rut (mid-December thru mid-January). If you're like me, you start getting the itchin' to go hunting about this time of year then you realize it's months till deer season. Instead of getting depressed...go aoudad hunting!
Booking A Hunt
We can easily handle groups of up to six hunters. If you have a group of 5 or more, you can have exclusive use of the lodge and hunt. Licenses are available over-the-counter. Please go to our Rates page for exact dates and prices.
